Wow, What A Long Day
After a three hour delay in Los Angeles and United Airlines thankfully finding another 757-200 to operate Flight 069 to Lihue, we arrived in Kauai well after dark. Even Avis had given up hope on us, but fortunately our vehicle was still waiting for the drive to the beach. Dubbed “Brad’s Big Banana”, the bright yellow Jeep Cherokee was filled quickly with our bags. We both smiled, thankful to be in paradise for a multitude of different reasons. As we drove the 30 minutes to Poipu, the impact of the delay suddenly dawned on me – everything was closed. Yup, even our favorite watering hole was closed after we dumped our bags. Fortunately, after some driving we did find a place for a quick bite and MaiTai to tide us over until we could go grocery shopping this morning.
Today has been all about relaxing. A nice breakfast of macademia nut pancakes was followed by grocery shopping for the condo and a LOT of time decompressing. For some reason our six hour flight just took forever, whether it be lingering affects of our recent illness or just one of those flights you would like to forget. United certainly does not do a lot to make you feel more comfortable beyond charge you more for the extra legroom. The buy on board food was nasty, the flight attendants magicians in their ability to disappear and the overhead aisle monitors beyond old school. But, like I am often prone to say, it did the job and got us safely to paradise!
After 22 hours since we got out of bed in chilly Cleveland, we both fell in to bed listening to the trade winds in the palm trees and waves crashing on the beach…. hello Hawaii, it’s good to be back!
